By implementing the Erasmus+ programme, the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA) seeks to create an international study environment, improve the quality of studies and administration, strengthen the institution’s prestige and competitiveness, and provide students and staff with greater opportunities for growth in the global fields of music, theatre, and the arts. The main goal of LMTA is to enhance the quality of studies and increase internationalisation. The Academy’s 2030 strategy prioritises becoming an open institution for international teachers and students, a competitive higher education school of music, theatre, dance, and film that meets international quality standards. The Erasmus+ mobility programme is the key instrument for implementing cooperation with partners: student exchanges (for studies and traineeships), integrated internationalisation through blended intensive courses and participation in partner-organised programmes, as well as teacher exchanges (teaching visits), staff training activities, and the planning of future joint study programmes. The long-term (2030) goals of the mobility programme include: 20% of students gaining international experience; 70% of teachers participating at least once in teaching or training activities abroad within five years; and the establishment of five joint study programmes. In implementing the Erasmus+ mobility programme, LMTA seeks a balance between incoming and outgoing participants, gender balance, and broad geographical coverage, building on more than 170 partnership agreements with EU countries while also expanding cooperation in international mobility with partners in Ukraine, India, Canada, the United Kingdom, and other countries worldwide. Through Erasmus, LMTA also aims to improve existing study programmes and create new ones, foster innovation, include participants with fewer opportunities, strengthen sustainability, and encourage “green” travel. One of the important institutional objectives is to increase the social responsibility of mobility participants, familiarise them with European values, and strengthen LMTA’s importance, reliability, and recognition within the European and global community of higher arts education institutions.
