Objectives

The GREENAGE project aimed to promote healthy and active aging through enhanced green skills and ecological behavior among adult learners. Its objectives were: 1) Create a non-formal training handbook and videos for adult educators to foster adult learners' green skills, active aging, and healthy lifestyles. 2) Develop competencies of adult educators and trainers by conducting pilot training and refining the handbook based on their feedback. 3) Encourage adult educators and decision-makers to integrate ecological behavior, healthy practices, and green skills into their programs through dissemination measures.

Background

We applied for the GREENAGE project to address the urgent need for promoting green skills and active, healthy aging through non-formal adult education, aligning with the EU’s Green Deal, Skills Agenda, and Green Paper on Aging, as well as the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030). The project tackles the lack of training programs in Lithuania and Croatia that integrate ecological awareness and sustainable decision-making for adult learners. Despite the emphasis on green skills in EU strategies, non-formal education in these countries lags in fostering active aging and environmental responsibility. Additionally, low participation rates in lifelong learning among adults, especially the 55+ population, in both nations highlight the need for enhanced educational services. By uniting international perspectives, the project aims to empower adult educators, increase adult learner engagement, and promote sustainable, healthy aging, contributing to national challenges and global sustainability goals.
