Objectives

The project aimed to enhance the VET learning process through digitisation and modernisation, by utilising a mobile application as a platform which is an innovative approach to teaching and learning. By incorporating advanced tools and innovative learning methods, students of vocational schools would be able to strengthen their competitive position in the labour market and meet the demands of businesses. This approach aimed to increase the appeal of vocational training by integrating engaging, modern, and innovative learning tools into the curriculum. The project aimed to improve the digital readiness, resilience, and capacity of VET schools by utilising a mobile app as a modern teaching tool. This would enable educators to better adapt to the digital transformation that is taking place in the education sector. By enhancing students' skills and employability, the project aimed to reduce the skills gap between what is being taught in vocational schools and the skills required in the labour market.

Background

Together with our partners we expressed concern that the digitisation and modernisation in VET institutions is slow. Educational institutions do not have enough funds to invest in effective learning tools. We saw an opportunity to improve the capacity of vocational schools to utilise mobile applications as a learning tool. This training tool is starting to be successfully used in a couple restaurants in Palanga. The evaluation results show that this learning application is very convenient, time-saving and attractive to young people, as the learning is done via mobile phone. We wanted to test it in Riga Technical School of Tourism and Creative Industry (RTSTCI), by transferring learning models of the Waiter Program by utilising a mobile application as a platform for learning. The project was planned use digital tools and learning methods to complement the existing curriculum. To achieve the goal, we did not need to create an application, but simply use the already created application’s template and upload the necessary information: video lessons, theory, tests, hygiene standards, etc.
