The primary aim of the project was to investigate the escalating negative impact of human behavior on the environment, particularly concerning climate change. Resource depletion emerged as a significant issue for Earth due to the rapid growth of industry, the economy, and transportation. The detrimental effects on the environment intensified, with a particular focus on the depletion of essential resources like clean water vital for human survival. Despite the critical nature of these situations, many individuals remained unaware of the consequences of nature's loss. Our intention was to raise awareness that Earth's climate was already undergoing changes due to increased greenhouse gas emissions resulting from human activities, rather than being a distant concern. Observable changes included shifts in the ranges of plants and animals, the melting of ice sheets and glaciers, and the exacerbation of heat waves. Scientists had predicted manifestations of global climate change, such as rapid sea level rise and sea ice loss, which were already becoming evident. Additionally, we aimed to inform and engage young people by providing metrics to assess countries' performance in crucial climate change-related sectors. The Climate Change Performance Index 2023 was instrumental in this regard. Notably, Lithuania's rating dropped from "High" in 2022 to "Medium" in 2023, scoring 59.21. Similarly, Turkey received a score of 43.32, placing it in the "Low" category with the possibility of descending to "Very Low." Other countries, including the Czech Republic, Romania, and Poland, also demonstrated a decline in their efforts to combat climate change in 2023 compared to 2022. The decline in climate change performance validated the concerns expressed by participating organizations. Despite the increasing global popularity of sustainability and green living, there was a lack of awareness among young people in these countries. Disparities in practices such as waste sorting, the use of reusable items, and sustainable travel highlighted the need for a mindset shift. The project's goal was crystal clear: to inspire young people to adopt environmentally friendly behaviors and enhance their understanding of climate change. The objectives: 1. To increase knowledge about the climate change, its reasons, consequences, sustainability and the situation in 5 different countries regarding the environmental issues. 2. To introduce with the 5 R's of Waste Management (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle) and other sustainable green practices through non-formal and practical activities and so encourage them to apply it in daily life. 3. To empower young people act as agents of change for environmental and sustainable development by thinking about the ways and creating an action plan on how young people, 5 local communities can contribute in order to reduce climate change and become more sustainable.
