Youth workers Zala from Slovenia and Rasa from Lithuania met in a PBA in Finland (The Arctic Link) in October 2022, and after knowing about represented organisations they decided to work together and carry out common activities. Both youth workers were asking young people in local communities about the possibilities to carry out a project and in both countries groups of youngsters expressed their willingness to explore the Active Citizenship relating it to the topic about Green Lifestyle as well as to know other cultures in Europe. The reason why this project was important was that Lithuania and Slovenia are countries distant from each other and young people don't know much about their cultures. Green lifestyle and sustainability topic is important for every citizen in the world as there are things that has to be spoken about louder and brought to everyday life. There is a collection of very important data in "Greening the Youth Sector: sustainability Checklist" by Neringa Tumėnaitė (2021) and the importance of the topic for young people all over the world is very well explained and there are many statements to point out, e. g. that "Climate crises affect both their mental and physical health. Researchers have documented widespread troubling psychological reactions to the climate crisis (Sanson, Hoorn and Burke 2019), as well as negative effects on physical health, including exposure to environmental toxins and related illnesses (Sheffield and Landrigan 2010)". (More information here - https://pjp-eu.coe.int/documents/42128013/47261953/EUCOE+YP+Sustainability+Checklist+final.pdf/fd50d766-28a3-c119-bb29-06a0f33cc7c2) We strongly believe that education and information sharing on this topic is crucial when tackling climate change, that is why we wanted to offer young people to connect through mutual struggles in tackling environmental crisis, global warming and give them support to focus on solutions and realise that they have also an important part to contribute to the society and nature. The objectives of the project were: - Encourage communication and cooperation among youngsters through interactive workshops helping them to know other cultures. - To promote green lifestyle habits among young people and communities they come from inviting them to learn and share creative craftwork with others. - To invite young people to be aware about their surroundings - environment and people, - be curious, initiative and more tolerant. Both team wanted to find out new and interesting information how to start living a more sustainable life together as well as become more creative and possibly start new initiatives in the future, become more involved in different kinds of activities, especially related to European values, identity and be an engaged citizen. Lithuanian participants were ready to share their experience about good practices - the local initiatives "MINTIs" and "Žaliasis ovalas" implementation and encourage other young people to make changes starting from oneself. Both teams were asked to be ready to present their own country, culture, traditions, habits, etc. Youngsters' wish was to continue or begin being active in practicing and promoting Green lifestyle and start making changes for the future environment even if they can make little steps, improve their English language skills, become more creative and know lifestyle of their peers in other countries. The goal of the project "The GO" - to strengthen young people's ability and self confidence in living sustainably and to encourage creativity in everyday life by adjusting European values, defining European identity and motivating to become an active citizen. The project was meant to inform young people of the alternative lifestyles and habits that can substitute less sustainable ones and are contributing to a more eco-friendly society. The idea was to encourage youngsters to share good (and bad) practices among them and present more options that they can use in everyday life. So, the main idea of this project was to fulfill young people's aims: - to share different experiences so that youngsters can learn from one another. - to discuss and educate young people about sustainable lifestyle to help them start new daily habits - to learn things about green lifestyle and it's important on the European level - to understand the power of volunteering, especially in local environment as well as in whole Europe - to get more self-confident and be ready to make little changes starting in local environment - to find out about the main values of the European Union - to improve English language speaking skills - to use creativity as a means to make connections and opening up for new social experiences. - to improve personal knowledge about different cultures and make connections with young people in different countries.
