The implementation of the "Would You Survive?" youth exchange aimed to enhance disaster management knowledge and survival skills for 30 young people from Lithuania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia. The project's theoretical aspects focused on understanding how these participating countries address natural and man-made disasters across all main stages (Preparedness, Response and Recovery), along with designing emergency plans suitable for diverse scenarios and situations. The practical approach included learning to construct strategic shelters in the forest, preparing emergency kits, igniting fires using fire steels, creating water purification filter devices, maneuvering canoes, performing CPR and essential life-saving techniques, providing psychological help to prevent and manage panic attacks, tying different types of knots, creating masking nets, and successfully navigating the forest. All these hands-on activities aimed to enhance participants' confidence and self-assurance in their ability to effectively manage and respond to disaster situations. For example, constructing strategic shelters in an unknown environment such as a forest not only taught participants an essential survival technique but also encouraged them to think outside the box, make use of all available resources and adapt to their surroundings. Therefore, the objectives of the "Would You Survive?" project were as follows: - Improve the knowledge of 30 young people from 5 different countries on disaster management during the 8 days of mobility by providing reliable information on preparedness, response and recovery practices for natural disasters (such as floods, wildfires, earthquakes) or man-made disasters (war conflicts, terrorist attacks). - Strengthen the resilience of 30 young people from 5 different countries by equipping them with the coping and survival skills needed to withstand, adapt and recover from extreme events. - Enhance transferable skills among 30 young people from 5 different countries that can be used in academic or professional practice through practical and non-formal learning methods. The specific objectives included the following: - Explore the current situation regarding emergency preparedness in Lithuania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia. - Learn relaxation techniques for stress relief and panic attacks, such as the 5 Senses, Square Breathing, Progressive Muscle Relaxation. - Improve essential first aid skills, such as performing CPR, wound care, abdominal thrusts and other basic life support techniques. - Develop applicable skills and techniques that can be used to increase the possibility of survival, such as finding and purifying water, starting a fire, building a temporary shelter, navigating through the forest, among others.
