Objectives

The fast economic expansion in Lithuania has raised various environmental challenges, as shown by the OECD Environmental Performance Reviews: Lithuania 2021. The nation has set lofty targets for reducing carbon emissions in the short and long term. There has been no decrease in overall emissions of greenhouse gasses over the last decade, but transportation-related emissions have increased dramatically. It is also essential to address nutrient contamination in water sources caused by the growing use of fertilizers and inadequately treated wastewater. These initiatives need a more comprehensive approach to environmental management across all levels of government and a more robust incorporation of environmental issues into sectoral policy. Increasing funding for public transportation and making cycling and walking safer and more convenient are two top priorities that encourage people to adopt more environmentally friendly habits while traveling. The Young European Potential (LT) team traveled to Bakuriani, Georgia, in September 2022 to participate in the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange "Your life—Your choice." The goal was to raise awareness of the concepts of "refuse," "recycle," "reuse," "reduce," and "rot." The event broadened our understanding of recycling and its significance in addressing environmental issues, food waste, and plastic use. Thus, we realized we had to do something to save Earth's natural destiny. The purpose of the "112 Natural Importance Calling Emergency" (112NICE) project was to show how humans have affected the environment in the past and how they continue to do so now. The following objectives have been established to that end: -To get an understanding of the origins and scales of various (plastic, water, air, land, and noise) pollution; -To get more youth interested in and involved with environmental concerns; -To encourage young individuals to take ownership of protecting the environment; -To encourage the development of youth abilities in teamwork, research, and presentation; -To educate attendees and their respective organizations on youth-centered projects across Europe and beyond. Participants in the "112 Natural Importance Calling Emergency" (112NICE) program had a chance to consider their environmental concerns and those of their localities. In line with the aims of the Erasmus+ Program, we worked to improve the eco-literacy, intercultural understanding, and civic engagement of people from disadvantaged backgrounds. The 112NICE group included people from all around the European continent. Due to the area's diverse population, young people had an opportunity to develop their intercultural communication skills. Our project aligned with the overarching aims of the Erasmus+ program, in particular its focus on Youth Exchanges and the European Youth Goal 10 to build a society where all young people are concerned about the environment, are well-informed and can engage in determining the future.
