Objectives

The idea of the project came during the previously implemented youth exchange (YE) “Race To Employment” in Lithuania (LT) by its participants from LT, Romania (RO), Slovakia (SK) and Romania (RO). The participants were given the liberty and all necessary means to take the official photographs of the project themselves, however, during the process they realized, that even though they use photography nearly every day in their personal lives, they lack competences of how to properly make shots, what settings to use, the appropriate angles and lighting modules and many more other aspects required to make at least half a decent photographs. We took time in our free time between sessions and evening activities to brainstorm on the topic and to discuss extensively the lack of photography competences in their local communities as well as the lack of eagerness to act on implementing such activities. This project was one of such solutions and its aim was to spark the inertia that affects or youth in two fronts: 1. Low level of youth entrepreneurship activities 2. Low level of access to digital and creative education, namely in photography. After having these extensive discussions with the young participants, we contacted the NGOs that participated in our project: RO, SK and EE. The members of partner NGOs confirmed that they suffer from the same concerns in their communities and they would gladly join the project on the topic of photography as a way to fight youth unemployment without hesitation. Identification of the problem The levels of Youth unemployment in European Union (EU) in general have been increasing in the last couple of years, according to the statistics of 2022 by OECD it remains at unacceptable numbers of 15.2%. In Lithuania, the national situation is above average with 12.4% but the situation is not generalized to every region in the country and it is higher in the Sudovia region where the association activates. The same happens in the small communities where our partners activate. The level of youth unemployment in SK 17,7%, in EE was 21,2%, RO even 22,7%. These numbers are above the EU average and send an alarming signal. Adding to this in all the 4 communities, there is a significantly low level of entrepreneurial activity, with young people not willing to take risks in creating their own opportunities. Photography content is almost everywhere today. It is, without a doubt, an extremely powerful way of conveying a message, turning into not only a very helpful business tool, but also into a highly potential entrepreneurial activity. The young people from all the 4 partner communities did not have easy access to the necessary environments where they could explore and learn more about this topic and so, this project aimed to provide that. The goal of this project was to introduce or develop young participants’ skills in photography and photo editing and boost their active engagement in entrepreneurial activities. The project had one mobility: a YE that took place in Elniakampis, Lithuania, between 25.10 – 03.11.2023. The YE involved 40 young participants (16-19 years old), from 4 countries: LT, RO, SK and EE including 16 participants who were facing fewer opportunities and also 8 group leaders (2 per country) and 2 experts in the topic as facilitators and 1 staff member. The goal of the project was successfully reached. By the end of the project we reached the following objectives: O1. Introduced participants from LT, RO, SK and EE to all creative stages of photography and photo editing. O2. Increased the confidence of participants from LT, RO, SK and EE to engage in entrepreneurial activities using photography. O3. Raised the awareness of 40 participants, from LT, RO, SK and EE to entrepreneurial activities they could engage in by having photography and photo editing skills and how to implement them towards the positive change in the communities. The objectives of the YE directly contributed to the Erasmus+ (E+) programme objectives and priorities.
