The RAP project aimed to raise awareness about power dynamics in youth work, encouraging professionals to reflect on their roles in perpetuating or challenging imbalances. This awareness was intended to drive individual growth and systemic change within the sector. Recognizing that awareness alone is insufficient, the project developed the RAP Workbook, a user-friendly resource linking theory and practice, offering tools for self-reflection, critical analysis, and anti-oppressive practices. Accountability was another cornerstone, promoting a culture where youth professionals take responsibility for the impact of their actions, building trust and creating equitable relationships with clients. The project also aimed to empower youth professionals to support clients in achieving their goals while inspiring young people to reflect on and use their personal power constructively. Through transnational collaboration, the project integrated diverse perspectives, enhancing relevance across contexts. By equipping professionals with its tools and insights into training programs and curricula, the project sought to create a lasting impact, improving the quality and effectiveness of youth work services for both professionals and clients.
RAP project was designed to address a critical gap in youth work education: the lack of practical tools and frameworks to help professionals understand and manage power dynamics. These dynamics, inherent in youth work due to imbalances in age, experience, and authority, often operate unconsciously, leading to oppressive behaviors or missed opportunities for empowerment. The project aimed to promote awareness of Empowerment, Accountability, and Anti-Oppressive Practices, embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion.Traditional training programs often overlook relational aspects, leaving youth workers unequipped to handle the complexities of power.RAP project filled this gap by providing tools to build trust, promote accountability, and raise equitable relationships. Its resources enable professionals to reflect on their roles, manage “care x control” issues, and address power dynamics with sensitivity and respect. RAP workbook and guidelines help establish accountable, trust-based relationships, promoting clarity, shared responsibility, and empowerment. This approach enhances professional growth, invites young people to become active participants, and leads to more meaningful outcomes by promoting personal responsibility and autonomy
