By implementing this project, we aimed to empower young people with a deeper awareness of gender representation in art, specifically focusing on how women have been portrayed in statues and three-dimensional models. Our goal was to encourage critical thinking about historical and ongoing gender stereotypes, and to promote gender equality through creative expression. By engaging youth in artistic production—especially using upcycling techniques—we sought to make them active participants in social change, while also fostering environmental awareness. The project was also designed to enhance young people’s sense of initiative and social responsibility, particularly among those from marginalised areas, by giving them the tools to communicate their ideas through art, podcasts, and videos. Ultimately, we wanted to inspire a generation that values inclusion, recognizes the contributions of women in all spheres of life, and feels empowered to act for the well-being of their communities. Through this, we hoped to create a ripple effect of awareness, creativity, and engagement rooted in shared values and collective action.
KEHSIA applied for the YOU ARE project because it directly responds to the needs of young people facing limited educational resources due to economic and geographic marginalization. These youth, especially in suburban and rural areas, are often at risk of social exclusion and lack access to inclusive, empowering educational experiences. The project’s focus on gender gap reflection and empowerment is essential for promoting equal opportunities and social awareness among these groups. Additionally, YOU ARE aligns with our commitment to cultural education as a powerful tool for inclusion. Its use of creative methods like workshops and “learning by doing” approaches (art crafts creation, memory walk, interviews, podcast and exhibition) resonates with our goal of engaging youth through relatable, hands-on experiences. This methodology allows culture to become part of the game, not a separate or abstract concept. Furthermore, the project helps develop essential skills in monitoring and evaluation, supporting our organizational growth and ability to contribute meaningfully to local communities.
