Objectives

The project aimed to promote the internationalisation of the higher education institution and each individual participant. The main objectives included preparing competitive specialists for the labour market in Latvia and the Baltic region, fostering intercultural understanding, and developing students’ theoretical and practical knowledge, skills, and competences and updating and improving the skills and competencies of employees. SSE Riga planned to actively host exchange students to strengthen internal internationalisation. It was foreseen that even those students who would not have the opportunity to participate in mobility programmes would still gain intercultural experience by interacting and studying alongside incoming students and learning about different cultures and traditions. The involvement of foreign guest lecturers was also considered a key element of this process. The project included the organisation of study and traineeship mobilities, as well as staff mobilities. In addition, the engagement of high-level international experts was planned to enrich the study process and strengthen the link between the higher education institution and the international labour market. Erasmus+ mobility activities were envisioned as a tool to provide participants with the opportunity to travel, live, and study or work outside their usual environment, fostering both personal and professional growth. Participants were expected to develop global citizenship thinking and increase their competitiveness, which would give them the confidence and readiness to start a career in any country or region after graduation. In line with SSE Riga’s strategic goals, it was anticipated that graduates would predominantly pursue careers in leading financial companies in the Baltic region. The skills, ethical principles, and intercultural experience gained through mobility were intended to be directly applicable in professional settings. It was also expected that several international students would return to their home countries after mobility and apply the acquired experience in their local contexts. The project aimed to promote equal access to mobility opportunities for all participants, regardless of their socioeconomic background, health status, or other limiting factors. SSE Riga planned to inform participants about environmentally friendly travel options during mobility, and to raise awareness of climate and environmental issues. The implementation of the project was set to actively incorporate digital tools to improve the organisation of mobility, the study process, and cooperation with partner institutions. The use of Erasmus+ platforms, online tools, and the university’s internal digital systems was planned to be used for student selection, mobility coordination, and feedback collection. SSE Riga strategically planned to use digital platforms (EWP, BM, OLA, and others) to optimise and improve the study process, as well as to develop digital skills among students and staff. Particular attention was given to competences in finance and data analysis. It was planned to assess the impact of mobility on participants and on the development of the institution, using the results to improve both academic and organisational processes. The internationalisation experience was considered part of the institution’s long-term development, fostering reliable partnerships, new forms of collaboration, and strengthening SSE Riga’s position as a globally competitive higher education institution.
