Objectives

To achieve the project aims, crucial aspects of success included establishing transnational expertise in research, developing training content, and validating results to ensure the quality of the training course, its micro-credential framework, and the digital training ecosystem for a high-quality training experience for both higher education students and in-service tourism professionals. An important aspect of the project was its contribution to European priorities, achieved by integrating sustainable tourism practices that reduce negative environmental impact and addressing the demand for new skills in the labour market, thereby increasing innovation, entrepreneurship skills, and promoting employability.

Background

The project is important in the current situation in the tourism and travel industry, as well as in related education and training, due to the increased need for innovative learning opportunities focusing on sustainable tourism and security. During project implementation, target group involvement and needs analysis research revealed new areas for improvement, such as the perception of differences between the terms tourism safety and tourism security, the growing importance of tourism ethics, and overtourism. These issues were addressed in the project outcomes, along with the initially identified needs to ensure the long-term viability of the tourism industry and to promote the safety of tourists.
