The idea for the project developed when young people and youth workers from Ludza noticed that Erasmus+ activities for young people were not available in the region. When finding partners, we realized that the environment and sustainability are currently particularly relevant topics, because of the new bottle deposit system introduced in the country and the fact that there are several examples of upcycling in the production of waste in Latgale and partner regions. This project was an excellent addition to the current activities and brought new breezes to the county with ideas for further research in the study of the processes taking place in the environment around us. The young people said that they hope to gain real tools and methods for individual and group waste management and also include these methods in their lives to develop eco-friendly thinking. When we asked our partners about why they wanted to participate in the project: The Municipality of Cento, as a local authority, is daily involved in environmentalism topics and in the management of waste recycling. For this reason, participation in a project on this matter would represent a great opportunity to enhance its knowledge on the subject, through the direct participation of a selected group of Cento’s youths, who will “bring” back home what they have learned during the project, contributing to the development of a common European point of view, thanks to the cooperation with organizations from different nations as Latvia and Greece. Moreover, the Municipality of Cento, through the work of its civil servants within the “Instruction” and “Youths” departments, has verified a strong increment, in the last years, of youths' emotional involvement and interest towards the “green topic” and towards the safeguard of the environment. For that reason, it would be extremely important given the opportunity, for a selected group of youth participants, to have a formative experience abroad, where they will have the opportunity to improve their expertise and skills in argument, debating, and exchanging experiences and opinions with their peers coming from different nations.
