Objectives

The project "Let's begin mentoring" aimed at equipping youth workers with the necessary knowledge, skills, attitudes, and experiences to enable them to confidently mentor young people: able to provide young people with support and belief in their powers, give personal and professional guidance, serve as a positive adult role model and adult relationships, reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation and support young people in finding greater meaning in life. The objectives set for this project were: 1. Develop common baseline on why youth mentorship is useful, it’s benefits for mentor and mentee; 2. Understanding one's needs & setting boundaries to take care of one's well-being, so later on one is able to support youngsters to do the same. 3. Exchange experiences of do’s and don'ts in mentorship and agree on common guidelines for work as a mentor. 4. Explore non-violent communication and radical honesty as methods to give feedback and build relationships based on vulnerability, emotions and trust. 5. Introduce coaching as one of the main tools to guide mentees learning, and explore coaching foundational principles: supportive goal oriented approach, and open questions. 6. Discover the basics of story telling and how it can help to teach, connect and create bond and relationship. 6. Develop participants unique mentorship style (including vision and mission) and strategy in order to have greater clarity and motivation. 7. Exchange experiences and understand what to keep in mind when working especially with young people with fewer opportunities: how to bridge the gap, create rapport and what to keep in mind; 8. Inform participants about Erasmus + Programme and possibilities of developing new projects within them programme.
