Objectives

The Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) is a higher education and research institution based in Skopje, specialising in journalism, media studies, strategic communication and public relations. Through this project, ICS aimed to strengthen the international dimension of its academic work, deepen its integration into European academic and professional networks, and build staff capacity in areas of strategic priority for the Institute, particularly environmental journalism, environmental education and science-based public communication. The project pursued four interconnected objectives. First, to strengthen cooperation between ICS and fellow member institutions of the European Journalism Training Association (EJTA), sharing expertise through teaching activities and exploring opportunities for future collaboration and joint projects. The teaching mobilities to Sapienza University of Rome were designed for this purpose, including the delivery of lectures in the field of environmental education and environmental journalism. Second, to ensure ICS's active participation in the governance and professional life of the EJTA network through attendance at the EJTA Annual General Meeting, combined with training on contemporary challenges in journalism education. Third, to build individual and institutional research capacity through a traineeship at the Technical University of Munich, focused on the role and value of strategic communication in translating scientific data and research into successful environmental policies, using pollinator policies as a case study and comparing European initiatives, German federal and state regulations, and the regulatory gaps in North Macedonia and the wider Western Balkan region. Fourth, and more broadly, to transfer the knowledge, contacts and methods acquired abroad back into ICS's curricula, research agenda and project portfolio, thereby raising the quality and European relevance of the Institute's teaching and research.
