The chosen staff who attended this job shadowing, were also expected to train others in establishing these programmes locally. In some instances staff would need to undergo further, more extensive training prior to local implementation and this will be done at the appropriate time.
The NBTS is the only entity that provides all the blood components for all the hospitals in Malta . One of the main limitations of the Service is its insularity, being the only blood service in a small island. Therefore, NBTS necessarily looks towards the European-level for training and skills, and to keep updated with the advancements in the field. It will also be operating a new state-of-the-art transfusion centre, which will allow it to expand our services into tissue and cell banking.
