Objectives

The “BEYOND THE GAME: USING SPORT TO CREATE CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING” youth exchange project aimed to foster intercultural dialogue among young people through sport as a universal language that transcends borders, beliefs, and backgrounds. Our primary objective was to provide a safe and inclusive space for young people from six different countries to come together, engage in sports-based activities, and learn from each other’s cultures. Through a carefully designed week-long mobility in Qawra, Malta, we sought to strengthen participants' social and personal skills—including teamwork, communication, leadership, and problem-solving—while also addressing pressing social challenges such as racism, xenophobia, and cultural prejudice. The project also emphasized post-war reconciliation, using sport as a tool to build trust, promote peace, and foster mutual understanding among youth affected by conflict and discrimination. We intended to create opportunities for meaningful exchange, empowering participants to become ambassadors of inclusion and diversity in their communities. Ultimately, the project aimed to build sustainable connections across cultures and demonstrate how sport can be a powerful instrument for dialogue, unity, and community development.
