The overall objective of the Micromobi project was to develop skills and raise awareness on the topic of micromobility, small human or electric powered mobility devices suitable for short urban trips, in the partner countries Malta, Cyprus, Italy and Slovenia. The main priority we addressed through this project was to contribute to more environmentally friendly cities and fight against climate change, as increased uptake of micromobility is a key tool to reduce carbon emissions from transport.
The Micromobi project aimed to promote cleaner means of transport such as micromobility. This was a common need in all of the partner cities/countries, as they all saw the rise of micromobility within their transport system, but are at different stages of the transition to sustainable mobility. The Micromobi project enabled the organisations to contribute to the education of micromobility users and other road users about road safety rules and practices, to enable wider promotion and adoption of micromobility, as road safety concerns are the number one barrier for (prospective) users. Through the workshops, different target groups (micromobility users, urban/transport planners, other road users) were offered learning material and training to gain new skills, to enable transformation and change, on an individual level (e.g. learning how to cycle, road safety training), but also on a sectoral level (e.g. designing for micromobility, teaching new road users about micromobility users). The project increased awareness among target groups about micromobility and vulnerable road users, through the capacity building activities, development of an Online Learning Platform and the Awareness Raising Campaign.
