Objectives

With the vast majority of Maastricht University (UM) students coming from Europe, many Europe-focused study programmes, research institutes, the top scoring European University alliance YUFE and unique initiatives such as Studio Europa Maastricht (SEM) that foster public debate on European topics, UM regards itself as the European university of the Netherlands. An active participation in the Erasmus+ KA131 programme forms a key pillar to maintain and expand this European profile. The objective of UM’s participation in the Erasmus+ KA131 call 2023 was twofold: 1. Expand students’ and staff’ access to Erasmus+ mobility opportunities (in Europe and beyond). This as interest among UM students to participate in the programme has steadily grown over the past years and UM wants to enable every student that wants to participate in the programme to do so; 2. To prepare the ground for a large-scale pilot to stimulate UM support staff and early career researchers to benefit from the programme. While UM has developed into a champion for Erasmus+ student mobility in the Netherlands, staff mobility lagged behind. With a co-investment by the university, in the period 2023-2026, all UM faculties and service centres should have the opportunity to have their staff benefit from a job-shadowing or research collaboration, as a means to stimulate personal and professional development and to strengthen the overall international outlook of the UM community.. This will be supported by a dedicated UM Erasmus+ Staff Mobility Coordinator.
