Objectives

The primary aim of this Erasmus+ project was to maximise opportunities for students and staff to gain international experience, broadening their horizons and equipping them with skills for their future careers. At the same time, the project aimed to strengthen the implementation of Erasmus University Rotterdam’s internationalisation strategy (Advancing Internationalisation, Policy framework 2021-2024) and to contribute to its broader societal mission (Strategy 2024 “Creating positive societal impact, The Erasmian way”), in line with the Erasmus+ horizontal priorities of inclusion, digitalisation, sustainability, and participation in democratic life. A key objective was to make international mobility more accessible by offering shorter and blended formats, providing additional financial support, and introducing the International Mobility Grant to enable participation in high-cost destinations outside Europe. In the field of digitalisation, the project aimed to expand the use of Erasmus Without Papers, while supporting staff and partners in adapting to these systems. As part of the implementation and dissemination of the European Strategic Partnership project Erasmus Goes Green (2020-1-FR01-KA203-080260), which ran until the end of 2022, Erasmus University Rotterdam launched a Green Travel webpage and promoted sustainability through initiatives such as a Pop-Up Swap Shop to encourage reuse and greener travel choices. The project also sought to strengthen students’ awareness of European values and democratic engagement by creating more opportunities for intercultural learning, student-led initiatives, and ambassador roles for returnees and staff. In terms of communication and engagement, the project aimed to improve visibility by strengthen existing events such as the Erasmus Goes Abroad Fair, aimed at outgoing mobility students, and the International Day, the kick-off event for incoming international students. Furthermore, we launched the Expanding Boundaries project with the aim of increasing outgoing professional services staff mobility and introducing a staff week for incoming staff mobility. To further promote staff exchange opportunities, we began offering dedicated sessions during the Share your Knowledge week and on demand. In collaboration with HR, the staff mobility webpage was also expanded to include a clear step-by-step guide and staff testimonials. For incoming students, the goal was to enhance services by further developing the One Stop Shop, where incoming students could arrange essential facilities (municipality, bank, public transport, healthcare etc.) in one place. Thereby avoiding bureaucratic obstacles as part of the broader ‘soft landing’ approach, combining practical support with social and academic orientation to ensure smooth integration. Moreover, we intended to expand peer-to-peer outreach by student ambassadors. Through these objectives, the project connected EUR’s internationalisation strategy with the broader goals of Erasmus+, making mobility more inclusive, accessible and future-oriented.
