According Instutional Plan, “Contributing to a Better World”, which aligns with the HZ international strategy, our goal remains to expose as many students and staff as possible to international experience and to create a true international environment by also welcoming many incoming exchange and degree seeking international students (17% of our student population is from abroad). We hope that by creating this international environment, we will all learn from and respect each other’s cultures, values and opinions, and create a better understanding for each other. In this way we can contribute to a better world. With this project HZ wishes to create an impact on participants that is life changing. For our local students, most of whom still live with their parents in small villages and towns in Zeeland, for our international degree seeking students of whom many dream to take part in an exchange and/or do an internship abroad and the incoming exchange students. With the funding of Erasmus+, -as there is no discrimination - students of all nationalities are included and are eligible for this funding. This project allows HZ to enrich so many people’s lives! Including such a large number of groups and with the help of extra funding for those with fewer opportunities, this project supports HZ in the objective to contribute to a better world. The larger the number of participants in this project, the more diverse the composition of the group of participants, the better the EU-values, which students learn at HZ, can be promoted. They develop these skills, among other ways, through the integration of the SDG’s in the curricula of all HZ-programmes. Now, more than ever, it’s important that these values of respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities, are spread in the world. The Erasmus+ programme, greatly contributes to this important objective, it helps young people to see things differently and contributes to a resilient and united Europe with strong democracies. As per our Institutional Plan, HZ’s aim is to educate students professionals for a world in transition, becoming a valued institute in the area of water, energy, and vitality, being the partner for social missions in our region and to be a vibrant community for all parties. The Erasmus+ programme contributes to this objective. In this globalizing world, where actions at one end of the world influence places elsewhere in the world, Together, we must work hard to realize this greater mission. Students can learn new perspectives from other cultures and countries regarding the above subjects. They learn new things and insights during their stay abroad and apply these in the Zeeland region or, in the case of foreign students, apply these in their home country or wherever in the world they will pursue their career. By literally broadening their horizons, they get the chance to broaden their view on different aspects of life, Europe and the rest of the world. Seeing with their own eyes the challenges that people of other cultures may be confronted with will lead to intrinsic motivation to really contribute to a better world. The knowledge they gained during their life and education in the home and host country, can later be implemented in their personal and professional life. Concluding, the Erasmus+ project, in collaboration with our committed staff and students, empowers HZ to sustain and strengthen its contribution to a better world
