Objectives

We aimed to empower youth workers to effectively combat hate speech through a comprehensive education and skill development program. Our project had several key objectives: Create a Network: We sought to build a community of youth workers, educators, and organizations from 19 European countries. This network, known as HateBusters, is dedicated to developing local activities and campaigns that combat hate speech both online and offline. Enhance Recognition and Response Skills: A major goal was to enhance the capacity of youth workers to identify, address, and confront hate speech and oppressive narratives. This involves recognizing hate speech in various forms and understanding its impact on young people and communities. Improve Activism and Education Competencies: We aimed to increase the competencies of youth workers and educators in the field of anti-hate speech activism. This included training in Human Rights Education (HRE) and using campaigning as an effective tool against hate speech. Integrate Anti-Hate Speech Methods: Another objective was to mainstream anti-hate speech and HRE methods into youth work. By doing so, we aimed to foster the development of future projects related to these themes in the partner countries. Ensure Long-Term Improvement: We aimed to assure a sustainable, long-term increase in the quality of work done by partner organizations and youth workers in combating hate speech, cyberbullying, and other human rights violations. This includes providing ongoing support and resources to maintain high standards in their efforts. Develop and Share Good Practices: Finally, we focused on exploring various good practices and developing local campaigns, educational activities, and materials. These resources are designed to support youth workers and educators in their efforts to combat hate speech, ensuring they have practical tools and strategies to implement in their work. Through these objectives, we aimed to create a lasting impact on how hate speech is addressed by youth workers across Europe and its neighboring regions. The project included training courses, local campaigns, and an evaluation seminar to ensure a thorough and effective approach to combating hate speech.
