The Digital Media for Human Rights Project was initiated with a clear set of objectives aimed at fostering positive social change, promoting human rights, and empowering young people and youth workers from diverse cultural backgrounds. The project, which took place from 5-14 September 2023 in Istanbul, Turkey, aimed to achieve several key goals: One of the primary objectives of the project was to enhance the awareness and understanding of young people about critical issues such as human rights, discrimination, gender-based violence, inclusion, bullying, and environmental concerns. By providing a safe and supportive learning environment, the project sought to equip young participants with the knowledge and empathy needed to address these pressing issues effectively. The project aimed to empower youth workers with the essential skills and competencies required to utilize digital media as a powerful tool for promoting human rights and encouraging community action. By doing so, it sought to create a cadre of dedicated professionals capable of guiding and inspiring young people in their communities. Recognizing the pivotal role of digital media in modern communication, the project set out to enhance the digital media literacy and competencies of youth workers. This objective aimed to enable youth workers to effectively communicate, engage, and mobilize their peers and the wider community on human rights and social issues, harnessing the full potential of digital platforms. The project sought to strengthen the capacity of participating organizations to support young people in utilizing digital media for human rights advocacy and community engagement. By enhancing the capabilities of these organizations, the project aimed to create a sustainable infrastructure for ongoing youth empowerment and activism. At its core, the project was designed to contribute to the development of a more inclusive and equal society. It aspired to foster an environment where human rights were not just respected but actively protected, and where discrimination and gender-based violence were effectively prevented and addressed. By promoting non-formal learning as an effective method for empowering youth workers and enhancing their skills, knowledge, and competencies, the project aimed to revolutionize the approach to youth work. It recognized that unconventional and participatory learning experiences could be powerful tools for personal and professional growth. The project had a broader goal of supporting the implementation of the Erasmus+ program. It aimed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience between participating organizations and their networks, thereby contributing to the broader European educational landscape. The project sought to highlight the pivotal role of youth work in supporting young people's development, enhancing their skills and competencies, and encouraging active participation in society. By doing so, it aimed to elevate the status of youth work as a valuable and impactful profession. Recognizing the increasing significance of digital media, the project aimed to encourage the integration of digital tools and platforms in youth work practices. It also aimed to inspire the development of innovative approaches to youth work within the digital sphere. Lastly, the project aimed to provide valuable opportunities for youth workers to exchange best practices and build their capacity to effectively support young people in using digital media for promoting human rights and fostering community actions. This knowledge sharing was seen as essential for sustaining the impact of the project beyond its duration. The Digital Media for Human Rights Project was driven by a comprehensive set of objectives aimed at empowering young people, enhancing the capabilities of youth workers, and promoting human rights and inclusivity through the strategic use of digital media. The project aspired to create a ripple effect, fostering positive change at both the individual and community levels while contributing to the broader mission of building a more just and equitable society.
