Objectives

The economic crisis, wars and conflicts in the world cause people to leave the geography they live in. The phenomenon of migration, which has become a global problem, brings with it various factors. The most important of these factors is the culture of the new society in which the migrant (refugee) starts to live and the process of adaptation to this culture. With migration, individuals with different backgrounds in terms of language, religion, tradition, culture, etc. have to live in the same environment (Aksoy, 2012). It is known that factors such as language barriers, social isolation and educational barriers are effective after migration (Hovey JD, 2012). Mental health problems arise in refugees after the stress experienced in the context of these factors. In this context, SU-ASEA carries out studies on language training, psycho-social adaptation and cultural adaptation for refugees. The biggest deficiency seen in the process of these studies is the lack of multicultural counseling knowledge in the context of our members. During the preparation process of the project and in order to collect data for the research, Refugee and Migrant Laws, the 1951 Geneva Convention, Constitutional regulations, statistical reports of the DGM (Directoraat-Generaal Migratie), DMB (Directie Migratiebeleid), DRM (Directie Regie Migratieketen), migration and refugee agreements between countries, OECD reports, statutes and regulations were examined. In addition, printed books and articles on the subject were examined and the data in the literature were reviewed. After this research, there was a need to provide information to SU-ASEA staff and youth workers about multicultural psychological counseling services about the psychosocial problems experienced by individuals in the process of adapting to cultural differences in the new society in the post-migration period. These needs also address the specific needs of SU-ASEA and the project partners. Therefore, PAM is a learning activity designed for the professional development of youth workers and capacity building of partners. Through this project youth workers will develop non-formal and informal learning skills for their educational and professional development. Moreover, PAM will contribute to the development of their organizations and systems. The objectives of PAM are: i) Providing a guiding map for the professional development of youth workers. ii) Ensure healthy integration of refugees into the target culture through multicultural counseling training for youth workers. iii) To minimize the mental health problems of refugees through multicultural counseling training for youth workers. iv) To inform youth workers about the services to be provided in the process of adaptation to cultural differences. For the above mentioned reason we want to implement this project in Rotterdam, the Netherlands with 48 youth workers, 2 trainers and 2 facilitators.
