Objectives

There are 4 main objectives: 1. To create inclusive, supportive and motivating learning environments in the adult classroom, to understand challenges adults face in multilingual, multi-skilled and multicultural learning environments. 2. To define the adult learner profile. This is to be tackled from an andragogical approach to learning both in the traditional and virtual classroom settings. We hope to reduce drop out rates among adult learners returning to VET by securing equal learning opportunities. 3. To be innovative in raising awareness of the self and the team through social cohesion, shared values, respect for the diverse work and class setting, increase respect, motivation and endorse sound mental health. 4. To encourage critical thinking in adult learning that develop essential skills such as creativity, critical analysis, collaboration, communication and ICT skills that can foster independent and motivated adult learners with an understanding of EU cooperation.

Background

As providers of VET for adults, we have a very diversified student corpus with diverse cultural backgrounds, life experiences, language competencies, learning skills and methodologies along with varying degrees of motivation. Our adult learners also face challenges with coping after returning to studies after a long break, varying health issues, learning disabilities, and some are learning to cope with trauma of dislocation. We aim to foster inclusiveness, socialization skills, good citizenship strategies in multicultural settings while building up staff skills, competencies and sense of cohesion. We wish to develop in a direction where we see our role in a larger context as mediators of knowledge and learning as well as proactive social actors from Nordic and European contexts. We aim to support our adult learners in acquiring new skills and knowledge to enhance their personal and professional development through the process of what we have defined as TRANSFORMATIVE LEARNING.
