Objectives

NTNU’s objectives for the Erasmus Mobility project are closely connected to key strategic documents at both the national and institutional levels. At the national level, these include Norway’s Strategy for Participation in Erasmus+ and the European Education Area (2021–2027). At the institutional level, NTNU is guided by its International Development Plan 2022–2025 and its Erasmus Policy Statement. Together, these documents reflect the overall goals of the Erasmus Programme as described in the Erasmus Programme Handbook. NTNU is Norway’s leading institution in Erasmus student mobility. The Erasmus Programme is the foundation of our mobility activities, both incoming and outgoing. It is our main driver of internationalization: it makes our campus richer through the presence of students from abroad while giving our outgoing students valuable international skills that strengthen their education. By prioritizing Erasmus, NTNU contributes directly to the national strategy of improving the quality and relevance of education and training in Norway. Our focus on equal access also ensures that more students, teachers, and staff benefit from intercultural learning and exchange. NTNU’s International Development Plan 2022–2025 highlights four main goals: Make better use of EU funding for research, innovation, and education. NTNU aims to take greater advantage of EU funding to secure high quality and societal relevance in our activities. We have the highest number of mobile students in Norway, both incoming and outgoing. Beyond student mobility, we are also strongly engaged in other Erasmus activities, including active participation in several Erasmus Mundus projects. Build strategic partnerships with selected institutions worldwide. NTNU develops and strengthens partnerships with leading universities around the world. Many of these collaborations are linked to Erasmus initiatives, such as our membership in well-known networks like ATHENS, TIME, and UNITECH. Our participation in the ENHANCE University Alliance is also central to realizing our international strategy. Strengthen international recruitment and staff mobility. NTNU tries to attract outstanding researchers from abroad and increase the mobility of our academic and administrative staff. We actively encourage staff to make use of Erasmus mobility opportunities. In some cases, incoming Erasmus students have continued their doctoral studies at NTNU and now contribute as members of our academic staff. Increase the share of full-degree students with study experience abroad. NTNU works for ensuring that more of our full-degree students spend part of their studies abroad. In some programmes, more than 75% of students already take part in international mobility. However, participation across faculties is uneven. Achieving a more balanced level of engagement is therefore of high priority. Our long-term ambition is for more than half of all NTNU’s students to offer international experience during their studies.
