The projects objectives were: * Children in our kindergartens have experience in producing different types of food (grow their own vegetables, make jam, lemonade, soup etc out of available fruits and vegetables) * Children in our kindergartens know how to reduce food waste (weigh food waste to get a reduction over time, pack suitable boxes for lunch, and finish what we have packed) * Children in our kindergartens are familiar with the circulation from soil to food and back to soil. (compost/make new soil out of peels and food waste and then grow new vegetables from the soil, sustainable water-systems through use of rainwater) * Children in our kindergartens have knowledge of the bees importance in the worlds food supply. (study bee-hives, teach abour pollination, how bees are important to vegetables, make candles out of wax, taste honey)
We applied for the project to contribute to UN's sustainability goal 12:8: Ensure that by 2030 the world has relevant information about, and an understanding of sustainable development and a way of life that is in harmony with nature. The Norwegian kindergartens from Lillestrøm municipality that took the initiative to start the project, had never participated in an Erasmus project before. Lillestrøm municipalitys kindergartes adresses specifically this UN - goal in their overall plans, and we wanted to collaborate with other European kindergartens though a smallscale-partnership to help achieve it. The four kindergartens in the project wanted to influence the children in our kindergartens to a sustainable way of thinking and living. We wanted to teach them how to be more self sufficient, learn basic skills on where food comes from, how we can grow our own vegetables and how to reduce food waste.
