Objectives

The idea for the project was born during the previous youth exchange “Game ON, Obesity OFF” carried out in Hungary in October 2022. While spending time together on the project in Hungary, we repeatedly touched on the subject of how much our lives, our daily habits, and daily routines had changed during the Covid-19 pandemic. We saw that our entire youth environment had begun to lead a less active, unhealthy lifestyle (instead of spending time outdoors, doing sports and being active, we devoted more and more time and energy to computer games, social media, series, etc.). We decided that it would be a good idea to invite our peers from Poland and Hungary to joint activities that would allow us to return to the active, healthy lifestyle we led before the pandemic. During the sanitary restrictions, it was more difficult for us to plan regular physical activity (we had no opportunity to play sports with classmates or friends from the yard), we spent more time in front of the computer (playing games or communicating with our friends via chats and social media). Before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, most participants from the Polish and Hungarian groups led a fairly active lifestyle, but the period of isolation strongly influenced our habits, reduced the amount of daily movement, and found new, unhealthy ways of spending free time (such as computer games, watching films and series, spending most of our time at home). Several people from our project group also indicated that isolation and lack of direct contact with peers caused them to reach for alcohol, although before the pandemic they led a very healthy lifestyle, trying to maintain a healthy, athletic figure. Most of us gained weight during the pandemic, and our level of physical fitness decreased. Participation first in the process of preparing for the implementation of the project, and later in two youth exchanges carried out in Csolnok (Hungary) and Biały Dunajec (Poland), allowed us to refresh our interests from before the Covid-19 pandemic, take a new interest in sports and rebuild good physical condition. The implementation of the project allowed us to reflect on our lifestyle, to think about how we destroy our health by sitting for long hours in front of a computer screen, eating highly processed products, drinking alcohol or limiting our daily physical activity to a minimum). The two exchanges, which took place in a very active way, were a time of self-reflection for each of us on our lifestyle, a time to think and plan how to change our daily habits in order to be able to fully enjoy life for a long time (having a healthy, fit body, energy to fulfill our aspirations, dreams, spending time together, traveling, developing our passions). The joint implementation of the project finally allowed us to spend time together with peers from another country, to get to know each other's cultures. By implementing the project, we improved our skills of cooperation in an international group, team management, self-presentation, expressing and motivating our ideas, we improved our skills of speaking and communicating in English.
