Objectives

Since technology is an essential component of contemporary life, the 21st century has long been associated with technological innovation and advancements. Every moment of the day, technology is literally all around us, and over the past century, it has shaped how the modern world has developed. The COVID-19 pandemic has further increased the influence of technology on our lives by minimizing face-to-face interaction and maximising our "screen time." We have experienced the negative effects of technology on our lives as a result of our extensive exposure to it. We conducted a social media survey of 89 of our peers, and the results revealed that 83% of young people report feeling more socially isolated, 72% report feeling more anxious when communicating with others offline, 61% say their sleep has gotten worse, and 56% admit they are less motivated to communicate offline because they feel less secure doing so. In addition, 69% of us said that because we spend so little time outside, we feel less connected to nature. In addition, we as a civilization must address a much larger problem called climate change. The Earth is constantly in danger due to how superficial humans have become in their behavior. The effects of pollution on people and the environment as a whole are significant. It causes environmental deterioration, problems with human health, and global warming. We, a diverse group of young people from six different European nations (Poland, Greece, Croatia, Italy, Portugal, and Romania), were brought together by the rECOnnect project. The concept for the project came up during a discussion about the COVID-19 pandemic between participants and a group leader from Poland and Romania during the youth exchange "Time to Act" in August 2022. Due to this time, we all experienced a sense of alienation, a loss of social skills, and a general sense of being cut off from the outside world. We discovered that since the project was about sustainability, one way to learn sustainable behavior is actually to connect more with nature because, generally speaking, we don't care as much about things to which we are not connected. This is how a youth is conceptualized.
