Objectives

The main aim of the project was to equip youth workers with skills and knowledge on how to transform intense emotions through Nonviolent Communication (NVC) & Contact Improvisation (CI) practice and to provide tools to support young people in their emotional growth, self-regulation and resilience. The program was highly appreciated by the participants and the evaluation proved that all of the objectives were met. The objectives were: to learn how to cope with intense emotions (anger, fear, shame, embarrassment) to increase body-mind connection to learn how to locate the emotions in body and understand how to regulate them to increase the ability to become grounded, learn techniques to release stress and become more resilient to practise how self-awareness can support empathy and respect towards others to practise how to shift from reactivity to relatedness, and take responsibility for one’s feelings and decisions to increase ability to set boundaries and communicate them to others to become more aware of the impact of the emotions on our bodies and behaviours raise self-awareness and increase emotional well-being This project was a direct response to the participants of another training our Foundation implemented in 2022 “Empathy Matters”. The formula of combining NVC with CI was highly appreciated by the youth workers as it was allowing them to deeper understand the concept of embodiment, connect with their bodies and realise how much feelings and needs are connected with our body awareness. After the evaluation of the last project we wanted to do a training that focuses on concrete emotions that are the most difficult to deal with for youngsters. The project improved participants’ emotional well-being by providing tools, resources, and safe space for practising transforming intense emotions into an opportunity to grow and build confidence and resilience. Participants now feel more empowered to teach about emotions, to support young people and to use Nonviolent Communication approach in their everyday work. Some of the participants committed to starting a path of certification for becoming a trainer of Nonviolent Communication and 2 of the participants after the training felt encouraged to start classes of Contact Improvisation in their communities. PERFORM organisation provides a lot of workshops using movement, dance and body awareness as tools for increasing well-being, self-awareness and empathy. The objective for our organisation was to create a new formula that could be easily implemented into many local workshops and school activities. Thanks to this project we strengthened the cooperation with the NVC centre in Poland and we are working on new projects for different target groups. One of the members of our organisation is already introducing NVC into a dance project dedicated to Women. Another participant is introducing NVC in school in Garwolin, so we are very satisfied with the results. All partner organisations wanted to improve the competencies of the youth workers in the field of communication and learn how to promote and teach empathy to young people. The program was designed and delivered in a way, that all partners were satisfied and follow-up actions were met with enthusiasm. The biggest success of the project may be also seen in the sustainability of the group through whatsapp. 3 online meetings took place and the group continue to be active offering different online activity and planning future projects.
