Through this project we aimed to address several critical issues faced by young people, including youth unemployment, early school leaving, increasing numbers of NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) youth, and mental health challenges. In January 2022, the youth unemployment rate in the EU was 17.3%, significantly higher than the overall unemployment rate of 6.5% (Eurostat). Furthermore, 10.6% of young people in the EU left education and training early in 2020 (Eurostat), and the average NEET rate in EU-27 was 14.2% in 2022. Additionally, a survey by the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights found that 35% of young people reported feeling frequently stressed. Research also indicates that youth in the EU are at high risk of mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, and stress. By implementing this project, we sought to empower youth by developing their competencies, enhancing employability, and increasing self-awareness. We aimed to equip them with tools to maintain their mental health. The project also intended to bridge the gap between non-formal education (NFE) and formal education (FE), providing tools that could be adapted in both contexts. This approach would raise awareness among formal education educators about NFE, youth empowerment, and support them in enriching their curriculum with activities that improve youth competencies, focus, and reduce stress or anxiety. Our goal was to support young people in partner communities by providing training for local youth workers and equipping youth organizations and educational institutions, such as schools, with innovative tools for youth empowerment. Combining improvisation and mindfulness, this project offered youth workers and educators methods to enhance youth competencies, self-esteem, confidence, creativity, self-awareness, and to reduce stress and anxiety, ultimately helping them manage their emotions effectively.
