Objectives

Since 2020, we have been living in very dynamic, busy, and changeable times. It has been difficult for young people and their capacity to cope with all these challenges and crashes such as the pandemic, wars, the natural disasters. It has also been very challenging for the youth workers, on the one hand, to continue to provide quality services to young people, and on the other hand, to take care of themselves during these turbulences. We experienced many professionals feeling demotivated, undergoing high-level stress and burnout, thus leading to unwanted changes in the organisations and their capacities. In these circumstances, we, as organisations, needed to find a new way to effectively and positively deal with the new reality and to support the well-being and flourishing of the youth workers. These were the needs that the “Stop. Reflect. Do Better” project responded to. With the project, we invited our organisations and our beneficiaries to stop for a moment, and dedicate time to our capacity and wellbeing as youth workers, coordinators, managers, educators, and peace activists. During the project, we increased the capacity of the partner organisations to use specific tools and techniques to boost and sustain youth workers’ and young people’s well-being. The overall aim of the project was to support the well-being of professionals, youth workers, coordinators, and peace activists and to build further their competences and capacities of the organisations in providing quality voluntary and educational activities for young people. More concretely, our objectives were: - to learn and practice how to take care of own well-being and resilience, in such a way preventing distress, burn-out, and turnover in the organisations, - to have a better understanding of the role of activists and youth workers and mechanisms for self-care, self-motivation, support, professional growth, and development, - to improve communication and conflict transformation skills, - to provide a better quality of the activities we implement (in online and in-person settings), - to be aware of the current situation and the impacts on the mental health and well-being of the young people we work with, - to be sensitive to the diversity of the groups we work with and organise more inclusive and accessible activities, - to build the capacity of our partnership and enhance networking opportunities. The project Stop.Reflect.Do Better was created and implemented by Stowarzyszenie Jeden Świat - One World Association (Poland) in consortium with CVS Bulgaria (Bulgaria), Service Civil International - Deutscher Zweig E.V. (Germany), Útilapu Nemzetközi Építőtábor Hálózat Egyesület (Hungary), Voluntary Service International (Ireland), Servizio Civile Internazionale Onlus (Italy), Center For Intercultural Dialogue Association North Macedonia), Associação Para Onde? (Portugal), Voluntariat Zavod Za Mednarodno Prostovoljno Delo Ljubljana (Slovenia), and Servei Civil Internacional De Catalunya (Spain).
