Objectives

By implementing "We are Ecopoliticians" project, the Foundation responded to the needs of a group of 30 young people from the Łódź Voivodeship who showed interest in active cooperation with local authorities in the range of the region's ecological policy. The aim of the project was also to initiate a dialogue between the youth and representatives of local authorities, which was to contribute to the joint development of an eco-policy strategy in the Łódź Voivodeship and to increase public awareness of the region's ecological problems. The project resulted from the need for action in the Łódź region, which is one of the most polluted in Poland and is strongly affected by the economic crisis. The youth wanted to participate actively in creating solutions that could improve the ecological and economic situation of the region, where many companies struggle with high maintenance costs. They believed that wise and effective eco-politics could become the key to sustainable development and stop depopulation processes. Main goals of the project: 1. Increasing ecological and legal knowledge - conducting workshops for the youth and residents of the region from 09.2023 to 09.2024, increasing knowledge in the field of systemic, constitutional and ecological law by 30%. 2. Tightening cooperation between the youth and local authorities - establishing a permanent dialogue and involving the youth in activities related to eco-politics and general policy, which was to result in an increase in their socio-political activity by 25%. 3. Interest in ecological issues at the international level - increasing awareness of the development opportunities of regions through eco-politics by 35%, engaging partners from abroad. 4. Building international cooperation - developing cooperation between PL, TUR, RO and EU countries in the area of ecological and youth policy, and preparing proposals for the EU authorities. 5. Overcoming the socio-political passivity of the youth - increasing the level of involvement of young people by 25%. The project assumed that the participants would not only expand their knowledge, but also become full partners in dialogue with the authorities, co-creating policies that respond to the ecological and social challenges of the region. During the workshops, the youth had the following needs; 1. Increasing the ecological awareness of the region Participants were aware that wise pro-ecological policy could bring economic and social benefits to the region. Based on data such as the UN report of 07.2021, the youth perceived eco-politics as the key to improving the quality of life of residents and stopping depopulation processes. They wanted to present their ideas not only to local decision-makers, but also to the inhabitants of Poland and the world. 2. Conducting dialogue with decision-makers The youth felt a strong need to be involved in decision-making processes, especially in the context of ecology. European Youth Portal research from 2021 found that most of young people felt excluded from public policy. The workshops were to break this passivity and motivate young people to act in the spirit of democracy, according to the rule: "If you don't like your region, change it so that you want to live there”. 3. Introducing dynamic ecological changes in the region Łódź region is characterized by numerous ecological problems, such as the lowest forest cover in Poland (21.6%), low share of protected areas (14.5%) and the threat of agricultural drought. Workshop participants were willing to deepen their knowledge of constitutional and systemic law, and ecology in order to become equal partners in dialogue with decision-makers. Their goal was to participate actively in activities aimed at creating a better future for the region and its inhabitants. The workshops allowed the youth to develop specific proposals and establish a dialogue, which was the basis of dynamic activities for ecology and local development. By implementing the project, the Edu4You Foundation aimed to activate the youth in activities for a democratic society by expanding their knowledge of the systemic and constitutional law of Poland and engage them in the creation of local eco-politics. It supported the youth with informal education in the fields of law and environmental protection, giving them a better start in the future. Cooperation with four high schools from the Łódź Voivodeship combined formal and informal education, shaping conscious and active citizens. The project was also to increase the involvement of the region's communities in the processes of creating eco-politics. The key activity was the development and submission of specific proposals to local authorities, which enabled the participants to have a real impact on the development of Łódź region and build ecological awareness among residents. Thus, the project contributed to strengthen cooperation between the youth, local communities and decision-makers.
