In implementing the project, we wanted to draw attention to the physical, mental and social health of the elderly. Taking care of well-being and health prevention, we decided to encourage adults to juggle as an alternative form of participation in physical activity. In order to achieve the above goals, we set three goals. The first was to promote the role of senior leaders from the University of the Third Age in the education of the elderly. The second goal was to provide new solutions for conducting physical activities that prevent falls, which are one of the major geriatric problems. The third goal was to prepare a manual containing a training program that will serve as a compendium of knowledge needed to conduct physical workshops, using preparatory exercises for juggling, focused on improving motor coordination and cognitive functions, and will provide the most important information on preventing falls in the elderly.
The project was created as a response to the challenges related to the ageing society in Poland. As a sports university with a Physiotherapy major, the level of which is assessed as the highest in Poland, we wanted to initiate activities that would slow down the ageing process and have a pro-health impact. The aim was to engage seniors in activities other than everyday activities. The project also aimed at social aspects such as integration, interculturality and intergenerationality. By promoting the involvement of seniors from Universities of the Third Age as trainers, we had the opportunity to show other seniors that physical activity is possible at any age, and health prevention can even take place at home.
