Objectives

While we were preparing for the project we discovered that the multigenerational classroom is challenging for educators and for the students, but at the same thime nobody seems to pay attention to this fact. Thus we wanted to raise awareness of this issule within our institutions, among educators and among students. We wanted ro raise awareness of the importance of communication across generations. We also wanted to help and equip the educators by giving them knowledge, tools and methods how to teach in multigenerational classroom. We thought that in this way everybody will be able to benefit: our institutions, educators and finally learners who will be getting better and more aware educators teaching them with tools appropriate for the representatives of different generations.

Background

We applied for this project because after we met and discussed the operating of our three institution it came to our attention that in two partner organisation there are classes offered to the adults of very various ages and in the leading organisation there is staff that knows about multigenerational communication and specifically about how to teach seniors. We ran a research prior to applying and according to this research findngs this situation is challenging for both educators and students who find it difficult to teach/ learn in one classroom people of different ages. The needs that we wanted to address were following: Educators - they need to have knwoledge and tools how to deal with a challanging situation when we have in one classroom people who are 18 and 60 or 70. Those students will have different speeds of learning, different abilities (for example digital) and some might have internal constraints. All of this might cause some tension and difficulties while teaching. Students - they need to feel good in their class but they also need to reach their own educational goals. These two for different age groups might be quite contradictory. That is why the situation os so challenging for the educators.
