Objectives

The project was initiated with a set of clear, ambitious, and deeply meaningful objectives, both for partner schools and for the broader community we are part of. We envisioned the project as a transformative experience that would not only educate our students about sustainable practices but also show how we think about consumption, waste, and our role in protecting the environment. The following outlines what we aimed to achieve through the implementation of this project, from educational enrichment and environmental awareness to community impact and European cooperation. Our foremost objective was to increase environmental awareness among students, staff, and families. We wanted to ensure that the next generation not only understands the environmental challenges facing the planet but also feels empowered to take action. The topics of waste, pollution, resource depletion, and climate change are increasingly urgent, and we recognized the responsibility of schools to address them proactively. Through this project, we aimed to move from theoretical knowledge to practical engagement.

Background

One of the primary reasons we applied for this project was the growing concern over environmental degradation, especially waste generation and the lack of effective recycling systems. We noticed that while recycling bins were available in the city and in our school, students and even staff often lacked the knowledge or motivation to use them properly. Recycling was not integrated into daily routines, and the concept of zero waste was not very popular. Through this project, we wanted to raise awareness among students, staff, and the wider community about the urgency of environmental issues, particularly those related to waste management. We recognized the need to educate students on the long-term consequences of unchecked waste, pollution, and overconsumption, and to inspire them to adopt more sustainable lifestyles. Another significant reason for joining this project was the opportunity to connect with other schools across Europe and learn from each other. Through this project, we wanted to broaden students’ horizons and expose them to different cultures, perspectives, and approaches to sustainability.
