Objectives

By implementing this project, we aimed to achieve several key objectives related to improving the physical and mental well-being of young people and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Our primary goal was to increase students' physical activity after the COVID-19 pandemic and restore it to pre-pandemic levels. We wanted to instill lasting habits of participation in various forms of physical activity, both at school and during free time, so that exercise would become an integral part of their daily lives. One of the key objectives was also to reduce the number of medical exemptions from physical education classes by 20%, indicating greater willingness and motivation among students to engage in physical effort. We also intended to create a set of tools supporting physical activity, such as 20 lesson plans for movement-based activities that students could use independently, as well as three event scenarios promoting a healthy lifestyle, to be regularly organized in schools. Additionally, the project aimed to integrate and support excluded students and those with health limitations by involving them in appropriately adapted forms of physical activity.

Background

We applied for the implementation of this project because we recognized an urgent need to counteract the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which had a significant impact on students' physical and mental health. We observed an increasing number of medical exemptions from physical education, a decline in physical activity, and a rise in cases of overweight and emotional problems among students. We aimed to introduce innovative methods promoting physical activity and a healthy lifestyle, not only within the school but also beyond. An important objective was also to strengthen students' key competencies, including language skills, and to develop their ability to collaborate in an international environment. Participation in the project allowed students to establish relationships with peers from other countries, exchange experiences, and learn from one another in a spirit of tolerance and openness. Additionally, we wanted to prepare the school for future challenges, such as potential further periods of remote learning, by developing effective methods for conducting physical education classes online. We believe that sport can be an effective tool for social integration and for building positive interpersonal relationships.
