Objectives

The TASTE OF KNOWLEDGE project aimed to achieve several key objectives by integrating cooking, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), and intercultural education into a hands-on learning experience. The primary goal was to promote healthy eating habits and sustainability while inspiring students to become active European citizens. By providing teachers with a comprehensive toolkit, including a teacher’s manual, lesson plans, and an online course, the project sought to equip educators with the resources to effectively implement the curriculum in their classrooms. Additionally, the project aimed to enhance life skills development in students, such as creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking, through engaging culinary activities. It also worked to foster intercultural understanding by using food as a medium to explore different cultural traditions. Ultimately, the project aimed to bridge cultural gaps, encourage interdisciplinary learning, and make STEAM education more accessible and exciting for students by connecting it to real-world applications in the culinary arts.

Background

The idea for the Taste of Knowledge project was sparked by the realization that educational systems often compartmentalize subjects, preventing students from understanding the connections between different areas of knowledge. The relationship between cooking, cultural traditions, science, and technology is often overlooked in traditional curricula. The TASTE OF KNOWLEDGE project seeks to address this limitation by promoting an interdisciplinary approach that bridges these gaps, offering a holistic way to grasp these interconnected fields. By combining culinary education with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) methodologies, the project creates an engaging and dynamic learning experience that not only captivates students but also encourages them to think critically and creatively. Ultimately, TASTE OF KNOWLEDGE was designed to meet the growing demand for active learning environments, where students can engage with real-life situations. By using cooking and intercultural education as a gateway, the project aims to cultivate culinary literacy while fostering a deeper understanding of sustainability, healthy eating, and the sciences.
