Objectives

The project aimed to raise students’ and teachers’ awareness of water sustainability and ecological responsibility by linking past water heritage, present STEAM challenges and future-oriented habits. We sought to develop interdisciplinary, long-term thinking and promote a holistic view of water as essential for community well-being. By integrating digital storytelling, cartography tools and Goosechase activities, we aimed to strengthen ICT use, encourage innovative methodologies and support the Rotary “Hands Across Water” initiative. The project also intended to improve key competences: multilingual and communication skills, cultural awareness through hydraulic heritage, digital and spatial competences, and scientific inquiry through STEAM. Long-term, we aimed to change attitudes toward water consumption, enhance schools’ capacity to run environmental projects, and foster responsible citizenship. Transnational cooperation allowed partners to exchange complementary expertise, enrich curricula, and create a shared interactive exhibition showcasing water heritage and STEAM solutions.

Background

We applied for this project because water, the planet’s essential lifeblood, is under increasing pressure from climate change and unsustainable habits. Our research showed clear educational needs: students lacked awareness of domestic water waste, parents and teachers prioritised electricity and detergents over water use, and ICT skills were uneven across schools. By exploring water through the lenses of past heritage, present STEAM challenges, and future responsible consumption, we address these gaps while motivating learners. The project supports ecological education, improves ICT use, and strengthens cooperation across Europe. It equips students to understand their past, analyse current issues and develop future-oriented solutions. At the same time, it enhances teachers’ competences, promotes innovative pedagogy, and helps schools integrate sustainability into their practices. A transnational approach enriches all partners, broadens cultural understanding, and supports the 2030 Sustainable Development goals.
