Media literacy and tackling disinformationNew learning and teaching methods and approaches

Objectives

The main objective of the project was to improve the quality of media education among young people, including those at risk of social exclusion. As part of the project, we developed and implemented innovative methods for teaching media literacy, which engaged young people and enabled them to use digital media consciously and safely. We provided teachers, educators, and trainers with access to effective tools and teaching methods, which helped them enhance media literacy skills among their students. One of the key outcomes of the project was the creation of a catalog of recommendations, featuring best practices and proven teaching strategies. Additionally, we established an international network of organizations dedicated to media education, facilitating the exchange of experiences and best practices among experts from different countries. Collaboration with international partners allowed us to adapt various educational methods to local contexts, thereby increasing the effectiveness of initiatives targeted at young people and their educators. Ultimately, the project contributed to strengthening young people's media competencies, better preparing them for conscious participation in the digital world and active engagement in the i

Background

The Pro Cultura Foundation applied for this project because it has been actively involved in media and digital education for years, also among young people at risk of social exclusion. Our previous initiatives, such as "Digital Citizen" and "5 Keys to the Internet", have shown that young people struggle with critically evaluating media content, distinguishing facts from opinions, and navigating the internet safely. Through our work with teachers and educators, we have also noticed a lack of consistent tools and methodologies for teaching media literacy in an engaging and relevant way. There is also a need to create an international platform for exchanging experiences and best practices. Our goal in applying for this project was to enhance the quality of media education by developing innovative teaching methods, creating a catalog of recommendations, and building a network of organizations dedicated to digital and media education. Collaboration with international partners allows us to draw inspiration from different approaches and adapt them to the Polish context, ultimately increasing the effectiveness of initiatives aimed at young people and their educators.
