The main objective of the EURECA project was to improve access to non-formal, multilingual adult education on urban ecology and sustainability for vulnerable adults in European cities, particularly those affected by low skills, unemployment, and migration. The project aimed to raise awareness of sustainable development practices, enhance digital and green competences, and promote social inclusion through innovative learning pathways. Specifically, we wanted to: - Collect and document good practices related to urban ecology, community learning, and environmental sustainability. - Develop an open, multilingual e-learning platform offering accessible OER resources. - Pilot these resources with adult learners in five partner countries (Poland, Portugal, Italy, Spain, Czechia). - Foster networks and partnerships between community organizations and adult education providers promoting green transition and inclusion in line with Erasmus+ priorities.
We applied for the EURECA project to address the critical need for accessible adult education on urban ecology amid rapid urbanization, climate change, and biodiversity loss in European cities. Despite growing environmental challenges - like invasive species, land use changes, and loss of green spaces - there is a significant gap in non-formal, multilingual OER resources tailored for vulnerable adults (low-skilled, unemployed, migrants) who lack access to formal training. Our consortium identified low awareness of SDG-linked good practices (e.g., community gardens, zero-waste solutions, green islands) and barriers to digital/green skills among target groups in Poland, Portugal, Italy, Spain, and Czechia. The project fills this gap, for example, by collecting good practices, developing a multilingual e-learning platform, and piloting it with adult participants - thereby promoting inclusion, green skills, and sustainable development in line with Erasmus+ programme priorities.
