Objectives

In implementing the MINECROP project, our goal was to strengthen vocational education and training (VET) in climate-friendly agriculture. We aimed to translate knowledge about sustainable farming techniques into specific, verifiable competencies and practical tools for working with students and adult learners. Our key objective was to develop a coherent teaching package consisting of a training framework that maps competencies and techniques, an interactive guidebook, and lesson plans to facilitate implementation in VET programs. Additionally, we planned to create and make available the MINECROP Minecraft World as a complementary experiential learning environment with missions, challenges, and scenarios. Instructions for trainers would accompany the Minecraft World, enabling participants to practice agronomic decision-making in a simulated environment and strengthen their commitment to sustainable production. All materials were to be available in multiple languages, validated in test sessions with educators, and disseminated through the project website and communication activities. This would ensure continued use of the results after funding ended.

Background

The application for the MINECROP project stemmed from the need to quickly strengthen “green” competencies in vocational education and training (VET) in agriculture and from the gap in modern, engaging teaching tools that translate knowledge about sustainable farming techniques into practical skills. The partnership developed its concept based on a literature review, a collection of best practices, and interviews with the target group to tailor the content to the realities of agricultural schools and non-formal education. The project responded to the need for a coherent package of resources: a training framework, an interactive guide, and lesson plans, complemented by “MINECROP Minecraft World” as an experiential learning environment. The game format allows for the practice of agronomic decisions in a safe simulation, reinforces motivation to reduce environmentally harmful practices, and, thanks to its availability in seven languages, facilitates the transfer of solutions between countries. At the same time, it addressed the need to support VET teachers and trainers through instructional materials, pilot projects, and validations with educators, which verified the usefulness of the results in the VET environment.
