Objectives

Since 1989, ESAD has embraced internationalisation as one of the central pillars of its educational project — not only in scientific and pedagogical domains but also as a strategy for national and international affirmation. Through the implementation of this project, ESAD aimed to achieve a set of clear and strategic objectives, such as: promoting, diversifying, and consolidating international mobility opportunities involving all eligible groups — students, teaching staff, and technical-administrative staff; enhancing the quality of teaching, research, and institutional experience; and aligning, where possible, with the horizontal priorities of the Erasmus+ Programme, namely inclusion and diversity, green and digital transition, active citizenship, and the connection to the world of research. Regarding outgoing mobility, the goal was to provide enriching academic and cultural experiences capable of deepening our understanding of reality and worldview, developing language skills, strengthening critical thinking, and fostering European citizenship, tolerance, and acceptance of diversity. Incoming mobilities were seen as opportunities for mutual enrichment, contributing to a more dynamic and diverse academic environment and promoting the personal, academic, and intercultural growth of participants and the ESAD community. Mobility for teaching and staff aimed to encourage the sharing of good practices, contact with new pedagogical methodologies, and the strengthening of international cooperation networks, fostering innovation and institutional development. ESAD also aimed to promote democratic values, active citizenship, and civic participation through various preparatory and welcoming activities, such as the Peer-to-Peer mentoring programme, the Welcome Days in partnership with the Municipality of Matosinhos and local tourism services, Erasmus Weeks, and information sessions aimed at both outgoing and incoming participants, encouraging intercultural dialogue and respect for shared European values. Additionally, we collaborate annually with the Municipality of Matosinhos on the "Igualigual" campaign, which promotes gender equality and the construction of a fairer and more equal society. Inclusion and diversity were transversal priorities. Awareness and communication actions were carried out regarding the additional support available, and equal access to mobility was ensured for participants with fewer opportunities. Within the scope of the digital transition, we aimed to promote hybrid forms of mobility and virtual collaboration, as well as the development of participants’ digital skills. At the same time, the complete digitalisation of mobility management processes was implemented, in line with the principles of the Erasmus Without Paper (EWP) initiative.
