Objectives

Through this project, the University of Porto (UP) aimed to strengthen its internationalisation process and its institutional competitiveness, as well as that of Portugal, by increasing its visibility in the European Higher Education Area (https://noticias.up.pt/2024/02/05/u-porto-atrai-de-20-milhoes-para-a-cooperacao-internacional/) . The project leveraged new collaborations and strengthened existing partnerships by signing new IIAs, via the EWP network, with European Higher Education Institutions, which resulted in over a thousand high-quality and successful mobility experiences, making a significant contribution to the dissemination of excellence promoted by the Erasmus+ Programme. In line with the horizontal priorities of the Programme, the project boosted the internal digital transformation process by training teaching, student, and administrative staff in pedagogical and curricular innovation in the educational offer. During the implementation of this project, UP was selected as EWP Champion, one of the results with the greatest impact in terms of international visibility, which recognises UP's efforts in dematerialising processes and its contribution to the dissemination of EWP in Portugal. UP designed this project in line with its modernisation and internationalisation strategy, in accordance with its Erasmus Policy Statement and the U.Porto 2030 Strategic Plan, promoting strategic partnerships, particularly within the European Alliance that UP is part of (EUGLOH). Therefore, the project has significantly contributed to strengthening institutional capacity in several areas, making it an increasingly open HEI. According to Times Higher Education (THE) magazine, U.Porto is the only Portuguese institution among the “Most international universities in the world 2025” (https://noticias.up.pt/2025/03/20/universidade-do-porto-e-a-137-a-mais-internacional-do-mundo/), a magnet for students (https://noticias.up.pt/2024/01/29/u-porto-ameaca-recorde-deestudantes-de-mobilidade-internacional/) and international staff, with the project having been crucial to the dynamics of U.Porto's international cooperation and the visibility of the Erasmus+ Programme.
