Objectives

Since its creation, the Erasmus Programme has been one of the pillars for the internationalization strategy of NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA), both at the institutional level and within its Academic Units. With the implementation of this project, NOVA sought to achieve a set of complementary goals that strengthen teaching, research, cooperation, and engagement with society. NOVA aimed to establish new collaborations with academic and non-academic institutions while reinforcing existing ones. This cooperation network was designed to enrich teaching and research areas, resulting in a more diverse range of opportunities for students, faculty, and staff. For students, the project sought to provide scientific and technical knowledge essential to their academic and professional paths. Through study or internship mobility, the goal was to enhance employability in a global and highly competitive labor market. At the same time, the programme fostered the development of language skills, autonomy, cultural openness, and civic engagement, key factors for a comprehensive education, both academically and personally. For faculty and staff, the project aimed to strengthen technical skills, promote the sharing of best practices, facilitate the exchange of scientific knowledge, and encourage adaptability to the demands of a constantly evolving academic environment. In this way, it directly contributed to the continuous improvement of the quality of services and teaching provided by NOVA. Another essential goal was to promote cultural exchange and European values, such as diversity, inclusion, cooperation, and democratic participation. In fact, contact with new cultural and social realities fostered mutual understanding, intercultural dialogue, and tolerance. In addition, NOVA sought to strengthen the link between academic knowledge and societal challenges, including those related to sustainability and climate change. Through cooperation, the project encouraged the practical application of knowledge and technologies developed, preparing the academic community to respond at the major global challenges. By achieving these objectives, the project aimed to enhance NOVA’s international visibility, consolidating international cooperation, increasing the competitiveness of its students and staff. At the same time, NOVA reaffirmed its commitment to provide its academic community with the necessary tools to effectively address the demands of the contemporary society. In summary, through the implementation of this project, NOVA sought to achieve: - The expansion and strengthening of international, academic, and non-academic partnerships; - The development of students’ scientific, technical, linguistic, and intercultural skills, enhancing their employability; - The strengthening of staff skills through training, sharing practices, and adaptability; - The promotion of European values of diversity, inclusion, cooperation, and democracy; - The link between academic knowledge and global challenges, namely sustainability; - The consolidation of NOVA’s international projection as a global, competitive, and socially committed institution. Thus, the project became a driver of institutional growth, academic excellence, and social impact, aligned with NOVA’s internationalization strategy, and its Erasmus Policy Statement.
