The Erasmus+ ALSUD consortium was established in 2012 on the initiative of five higher education institutions (HEIs) in southern Portugal, namely the University of Lisbon (ULISBOA), the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (IPSETÚBAL), the University of Évora (UÉVORA), the Polytechnic Institute of Beja (IPBEJA), and the University of Algarve (UALG), with the aim of supporting and consolidating the internationalisation strategy of the partner institutions and Portuguese higher education. By forming a consortium, the five partners seek to take advantage of the synergies resulting from healthy collaboration and the exchange of good practices between partners, as well as greater flexibility in the execution of flows, since they can be adjusted according to the specific needs of each partner at various stages of the project's implementation. The objectives of the Erasmus+ ALSUD consortium, and of this project in particular, are as follows: a) to promote an increase in the number of beneficiaries in mobility, students and staff; b) to improve employability and encourage the differentiation of students and recent graduates; c) to strengthen the link between partner Higher Education Institutions and the business world by promoting the offer of professional internships in Portugal; d) to promote the training of teaching and non-teaching staff; e) to disseminate the cooperation opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ Programme in its various actions; f) to promote the implementation of Blended Intensive Programmes; g) to promote the adoption of new, more flexible, inclusive and sustainable mobility formats; h) contribute to the capacity building of HEIs that are part of the Consortium, strengthening their national and international positioning, facilitating access to funding and participation in larger cooperation projects; i) promote the sharing of good practices, solutions and experiences between higher education institutions, particularly with regard to the implementation of the Erasmus+ EWP initiative. The objectives mentioned above are aligned with the four guiding principles of the Erasmus+ programme: inclusion and diversity; digital transformation; environment, climate and sustainability; and active participation in democratic life, as well as with the European Commission's European strategy for the internationalisation of higher education. In addition, all consortium partners are committed to contributing to the pursuit of the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly with regard to promoting quality education, reducing inequalities, and fostering partnerships to promote the SDGs within the scope of other Programme actions. Finally, with regard to this project, the focus in terms of flows was on student mobility at all levels of education and on the mobility of teaching and non-teaching staff, as a way of training human resources in HEIs, increasing their levels of job satisfaction, fostering the creation of international networks, and establishing new partnerships and projects at European level.
