The main objectives we aimed to achieve were: - To increase knowledge of the European Union’s Environmental Policy; - To develop practical skills (e.g. planting, selective waste collection); - To promote artistic, linguistic, and digital competences; - To foster critical thinking, creativity, communication, and teamwork; - To raise awareness of the importance of natural resources and the need for sustainable practices; - To engage students in meaningful experiences that would strengthen their 21st-century skills and sense of active citizenship.
The project was proposed in response to the urgent need to educate young people on environmental sustainability and the fight against climate change, which are recognised as some of the greatest threats facing the modern world. The partner schools identified a significant gap in ecological awareness and sustainable behaviours among students and their local communities. Furthermore, it was deemed essential to foster key competences such as critical thinking, creativity, active citizenship, and intercultural communication – particularly in contexts involving disadvantaged students. The participating institutions, all with experience in ecological activities and a strong motivation to act both locally and globally, aimed through this project to promote responsible attitudes towards the environment, to reconnect students with nature, and to equip them with the knowledge and practices needed to become fully developed, environmentally conscious European citizens. This initiative was developed as a response to the growing concern around climate change and the need to raise environmental awareness. The partners involved are schools with strong motivation and commitment to implement environmental best practices.
