Objectives

The project developed "Green Actions for a New Sustainable and Inclusive European Citizenship" was an experimental teaching and learning methodology leading to a change in practices, behaviour and lifestyles in order to reduce the Ecological Footprint and have a greater inclusive and environmental awareness among our school communities. Multiple, inclusive, experimental and pedagogical activities were planned to be carried out in the open air and in the different green places created by schools. The main objectives addressed were: - Preserve the value of Nature and promote respectful and aware lifestyles to protect the ecosystems and the Environment; - Promote the Implementation of the 5R Policy for Sustainability(Rethinking/Refuse/Reduce/Reuse/Recycle); - Develop scientific practices and experiences(STEAM method); - Empower the artistic and expressive skills by studying Nature. - Turn green school areas into places where all students can work and learn equally, with better academic results, raise interest in learning, and avoid school dropouts; - Take advantage of the transnational work among school partners to share good practices and create a learning tool for the environment and inclusive education

Background

The schools showed relevance in Environment and Climate issues and applied for this project because: A) it was noticed among students and school communities little coherency between knowledge and awareness about Climate Changes, Sustainability and their daily life actions, despite the projects and activities carried out; B) After COVID increased the problems of mental health heavily among our students with strong repercussions on the cognitive development and social interactions; This lack of coherence highlighted the need for more effective and transformative educational approaches to develop environmental awareness towards an incluse Eco-friendly Citizenship. The project addressed these needs by rethinking school education through practical, emotionally engaging activities that encourage critical thinking and environmental responsibility. The creation of pedagogical gardens and green spaces as outdoor learning laboratories was an opportunity for experiential learning across subjects, strengthened students’ connection with their local environment, and promoted physical and mental well-being. It was intended to develop the idea that local actions have global impacts and promote environmentally responsible awareness.
