Objectives

The Dig4AEdu project aimed to renew science and technology education by achieving the following objectives: Pedagogical Innovation: Empowering teachers through Inquiry-Based Learning and the 5E Model to transition from passive instruction to student-centered, dynamic lessons. Skill Mobilization: Developing essential 21st-century competencies in students, specifically computational thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem-solving. Technological Integration: Linking theory with practice through hands-on projects using micro:bit and Arduino, preparing the educational community for a digital society. Equity and Sustainability: Promoting "low-cost science" via recycled materials to ensure inclusive access to STEAM education regardless of socio-economic background. Social Impact: Fostering a generation capable of using technology responsibly to generate positive social and environmental changes within an international network.

Background

The Dig4AEdu project was developed to bridge the gap between theoretical science and real-world technological application, as well as to combat the erroneous perception about STEAM study, difficult and without immediate purpose. This initiative, led by five schools and the University of Porto, modernized STEAM teaching through an interdisciplinary approach linking classroom learning with innovation and societal challenges. The project addressed several critical needs: Methodological Modernization: Transitioned from passive learning to inquiry-based and project-driven methodologies, making students active participants in their education. Digital Literacy: Addressed the gap in teacher training by introducing tools like micro:bit, Arduino, and scientific video analysis to strengthen digital competence. Equity and Inclusion: Promoted low-cost science using recycled materials, ensuring that students from all socio-economic backgrounds had access to practical STEAM experiences. 21st-Century Skills: Fostered a culture of creativity and international collaboration to equip the educational community for a globalized future.
