In the second year of the activity plan of the YOUTH Accreditation of Equação, Cooperativa de Comércio Justo, Crl (Equação) we guaranteed the full execution of the project 2023-1-PT02-KA151-YOU-000113080, as planned, through the implementation of the Youth Exchange GREEN ENTREPRENEURS: you are what you nature!, from 9-17 September 2023, in Amarante (Portugal), focusing on the objective for which it was initially conceived: encourage young people to participate more actively and share tools for creating local solutions to problems and challenges linked to the environment and that affect them, seeking to use and take advantage of the human and material resources existing in their communities. The main objective of this accreditation is to guarantee the materialization of Equação's mission (promoting the principles of Fair Trade - CJ: volunteering, solidarity and respect for diversity), through investment in projects linked to education for development (sustainable, global and participatory) . We intend, in the end, to build a more sustainable and resilient regional community, inspire international partners towards alternative forms of life, economy and management and guarantee a new generation of actors (associations, politicians) who are more friendly to the environment and people, more capable because competent to transform the reality in which you live and that of others. The main objective of the project, according to the YOUTH Accreditation activity plan, was: Objective 3. LOCAL PARTICIPATION: support initiatives by young people who wish to transform their way of being and being in society and, therefore, with a more active participation in the decision-making processes that affect their community and which can be decisive for its quality of life as producers, consumers, activists or citizens attentive to decision-making processes and the functioning of democratic life. This participation should allow for closer and more sustained cooperation between different actors in society: citizens, organizations, companies and the public sector (for example, through the creation of informal youth groups or local action groups and support for structured dialogue initiatives with local authorities). This objective responds to the following needs and challenges of society: - Create a new generation of young people (with monitoring and development of skills) who intend to take on more responsibilities as members of the local community, association and cooperative leaders, youth animators, mentors and even as coordinators and managers of similar European projects in the future. Besides that, the project answered to Objective 1: SUSTAINABILITY - value healthier, more sustainable and participatory practices and principles, so that Equação can continue to practice what it advocates (we practice what we preach) by implementing actions that activate the local community, especially younger people, for issues of personal, social and environmental sustainability (mental health, responsible production and consumption, reducing the ecological footprint, combating climate change, etc.). This objective responds to the following needs and challenges of society: - Encourage the local community, especially young people, about the importance of participation in democratic life, environmental activism and the processes/stages of transition and personal and group change necessary to guarantee a more sustainable, harmonious development, meeting our mission, Europe's environmental concerns and the Millennium Development Goals; - Propose lifestyle alternatives that combat the exploitation of people and the environment (fair trade), that promote healthy eating (less quantity and better quality), especially for young people, and that encourage activism and participation. Furthermore, these alternatives can be transformed into job opportunities, social/environmental entrepreneurship and allow the creation of rural youth (taking into account sustainable values and alternatives such as bio agriculture, sustainable tourism, renewable energy, etc.).
